I rarely comment of political issues, but this one got to me because it greatly affects millions of the poorest of the poor.

The Obama administration and Congress pledged around $1.33 billion to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Now Obama is backing out of that commitment with devastating consequences.

The effort saves millions of lives every year and protects hundreds of millions. It is highly effective and desperately needed in the poorest corners of the planet. Other countries are also backing out under the «Me Too» excuse following the US's example.
The US spends $1.9 billion every single day on the military. Every Day! To not spend 1.3 billion a YEAR helping the poorest people who cannot help themselves is the height of greed, cynicism and it makes me fear for the future of this country in the same way one would be concerned for an obscenely rich and greedy person. I love this country but this is shameful.

Building up the military at this rate ( we spend on defense as much as the rest of the world combined) and decreasing aid at the same time is like being a world champ fighter continuing to work out more and eat more so he is able to beat a normal person up with one punch instead of two not noticing or caring about a starving person in his family while bragging about being the defender of the weak. It is utterly disgusting.
What do you think?
Here's a more detailed article about it written by economist Jeffrey Sachs.
