The film Blue Like Jazz opened in select theaters this weekend. Here's what I thought of it.

 If you have read the book, inevitably you will wish for more in the film, but that is just impossible given the medium. If you haven't read the book, make sure you read it even if you saw the movie. The storyline is different.

The great Etta James passed away. She  is the voice of an era.

This is my favorite performance of hers. The power, depth, almost a scream of the heart of this performance is moving beyond words. Sad to see her go.
